Notification
to the Registrar of Marriages of Intention to Marry
Form FLA.1.98 - To
be used to give notification to the appropriate Registrar of a person's
intention to marry.
General Information: Each party to a marriage taking place in the State either by civil or religious ceremony, must give at least three months written notification to the Registrar of Marriages for the District in which the marriage is to take place. Certain expemptions may apply where either the High Court or Circuit Family Court has granted its approval in accordance with Section 33 of the Family Law Act 1995. An explanatory leaflet detailing the requirements in civil law to have a valid marriage registered is available from the Registrar. The three months notification person commences on the date the notification of intention to marry is received by the relevant Registrar and the onus is on the parties to an intended marriage to ensure that the notification is received in time and is valid in all other respects. Please see overleaf for details of how to locate the registrar to whom this form should be returned and a note on how to complete this form.

Notifications
