Brendan Behan was thrown out of 720 Dublin Pubs, but still found several welcoming hostelries. There is reputedly a pub for every 300 of the population, man, woman and child. From sophisticated emporia of wit and alcohol to spit & sawdust shebeens, they offer a mirror for your every mood.
Though Arthur Young in his 18th century Irish peregrination recorded lodging in inns where not even self respecting animals would stay, things have improved a lot over the last two centuries. Scattered around the country there are an ever growing range of taverns that offer fine food, good drink, live entertainment and comfortable bedrooms.

Irish pubs are generally family friendly places and welcome children during the day. Coffee, tea and soft drinks are always served.
