"Contemporary Country..."

Built in 1712, Castle Durrow is a piece of Irish history embodied in stone. Approximately 90 minutes from Dublin on the Dublin-Cork Road (N8),Co. Laois, the magnificent building stands in a commanding position in the centre of Durrow Village overlooking the beautiful River Erkina. Subsequent to Peter and Shelly Stokes buying Castle Durrow in 1998, the past three years has seen the transformation of the Castle into a gorgeous 24-bedroomed Country House Hotel unlike any in Ireland.
Set amid 30 acres of manicured gardens, woodlands, orchards and paddocks, Castle Durrow is a unique fusion of Queen Anne, Victorian and Georgian styles. Bright, modern and eclectic, each room is individually fashioned with a wink to its past. The first floor consists of the Master Bedrooms, each with high ceilings, tall Georgian windows and breathtaking views of the Estate. Enormous four-poster or half poster beds stand on polished floors next to ancient fireplaces and decorative wallpaper. The West Wing bedrooms are carpeted, have sleigh beds and also have their own fireplaces. A selection of bedrooms have an attractive Oriental theme. They are also carpeted, have exposed beams and Oriental style wallpaper and furniture. In total there are 24 bedrooms at Durrow Castle. 18 of these are double bedded rooms, 2 have a double bed and a single bed and 4 are family suites with a double bed and 2 full size bunk beds.
The Queen Anne Restaurant has exquisite ornate ceilings and two marble fireplaces on either end. Noel Daly, Executive Head Chef of their sister company, Coopers Restaurant - is Head Chef. The Restaurant can accommodate up to 80 guests and has fantastic views over the terrace and formal gardens.
In all public areas shimmering chandeliers drape from the ceilings. For those inclined to find a quiet corner, read a book, or simply laze about- Castle Durrow has just the thing. The Library with its hand painted silk wallpaper, the Cocktail Bar with its smoky leather sofas, and the Drawing Room all provide an ideal location to relax and unwind. Just off the Drawing Room, you'll find the Snooker Room and Beauty Room (Beauty Room at this stage has treatments including massage and manicures).
For the more energetic guest, the grounds at Castle Durrow are extensive and include a host of enjoyable activities over and above an Equestrian Centre which is expected to open early next year providing treks and riding lessons. Within a twenty-mile radius of Castle Durrow there are five golf courses and the Hotel is keen to organise golf and any other arrangements for guests. If that's not enough, there is fishing, hiking/walking, clay-pigeon shooting, archery, and cycling which are available locally and on the Estate. Long-term plans for the Hotel include the provision of a Leisure Club with gym and indoor swimming pool.
Castle Durrow caters for a wide variety of corporate and personal events. The Castle Hall adjacent to the terrace with views of the Orchard, Herb Garden, Paddocks and Woodlands can accommodate up to 400 delegates for a conference and up to 200 guests for a wedding or banquet.
