Woodbrook Cottage

THIS Enchanting "Hansel & Grettel" cottage is set on a country lane between Shillelagh and Clonegal, about 90 minutes from Dublin.  Dating from the mid 19th century and built from local granite, it is tiny, and has 4 rooms, - two bedrooms upstairs, a sitting room with a woodburning stove downstairs, a kitchen with an electric cooker and a microwave, as well a a clothes washing machine, and a bathroom with a shower over the tub.   Across the garden is a small building with a w.c, cooking area and fridge freezer,  Attached to it is a conservatory with table and chairs where family meals are generally taken.

The South facing bedroom has a brass double bed and lovely views across the valley to the mountains beyond.  The second bedroom has three single beds.  The sitting room has a large sofa and an easy chair, as well as a small table at which to write your great novel.  There is no telephone, but cell-phones do work here.  There is no television, but with the beautiful scenery and surrounding bird song, no other entertainment is needed!!

In the area are castle and gardens to visit, pubs to patronise and mountains to climb.  Coolatin, which is about 10 minutes away, has a really good parkland golf course and Mount Wolsey at Tullow, a championship course, is 15 minutes away.  The seaside is 25 minutes.  There is fishing on the River Slaney.    Heating is by the solid fuel stove and electric storage heaters.  The house is regularly used by its Dublin based owners, so all the basics are always available for guests - salt, pepper, tabasco, vinegar, soap, etc.  The owners use one wardrobe and 2 drawers of a chest to store their clothes.
