This fishing lodge,
know locally as "The Huts", is situated midway between Kenmare and Waterville on
the Ring of Kerry, a 10 minute walk from the seaside. It overlooks the best pool on the
river and Ireland's highest mountain range - the McGillicuddy Reeks. As befits a fishing
lodge, the accommodation is comfortable without being luxurious, and it has been recently
completely redecorated. It is not suitable for very young children as the river is right
outside the door. The village, which is noted for the traditional music sessions in its
many pubs, is a 5 minute walk.
Local attractions: The Sneem is a spate river about 8 miles long. The best pools are
within easy walking distance of the lodge. 33 salmon and grilse were caught in 1992 and
over 50 in 1993. The river also has sea trout. Sneem village is one of the most attractive
in Ireland, a five minute walk from the lodge. The beaches in the area are pebble beaches,
but there are magnificent and usually deserted sandy shores within 20 minutes. Waterville,
Killarney and Tralee golf courses are within easy driving distance. Kenmare estuary offers
good sea fishing and a boat and outboard can be hired.
