- An Exclusive Venue -

Set in the middle of a 1,500 acre estate surrounded by stunningly beautiful valleys and woodlands on the banks of the River Boyne, Slane
Castle lies only 25 minutes from Dublin Airport.
Slane Castle, the home of The Earl & Countess of Mount Charles, is renowned worldwide for the annual Rock Concerts held in the natural amphitheatre in front of the Castle. Acts featured over the years were U2, REM, OASIS, NEIL YOUNG, DAVID BOWIE, QUEEN, BOB DYLAN, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and THE ROLLING STONES.

In 1991, there was a disastrous fire in the Castle, causing extensive damage to the building and completely destroying the Eastern section facing the River Boyne. It took ten years to restore, a programme completed without any public funding. The building was reopened to the public in 2001. It is available for Receptions, Banquets, Conferences and Accommodation.  From a fairytale wedding to corporate functions, conference and banquets for up to 200 guests - Slane Castle can accommodate any event in unique style.
The house sleeps up to 20 guests in 10 rooms, all with en suite bathrooms, and is fully serviced.

Slane Castle offers  exclusive use of this beautiful venue for weddings, using the Grand Ballroom which seats 110 guests or the Burton Hall seating 240 guests. Exclusive hire of Slane Castle allows you to use all adjacent rooms such as the elegant Morning Room, Main Castle Hall as well as the Castle Dining and Drawing rooms for all your pre and post dinner receptions. The extensive gardens, woodland, courtyard and gothic arches provide the perfect backdrop for photographs.

Your Wedding Planner will handle absolutely everything from offering suggestions in relation to churches, invitations, entertainment, transport, flowers and menu planning, to booking your wedding day requirements and managing your day, greeting your guests, organising accommodation requirements and ensuring that everything runs like clockwork on the day. There have been times when we have been writing place cards for brides whilst they were in the church getting married as they ran out of time to do it! That’s what your Wedding Planner is here for!!

A Brief History

Slane Castle celebrated its bicentennial year in 1985, an occasion that was marked by the official opening of the Castle to the public.

The Castle as you see it today was reconstructed under the direction of William Burton Conyngham, and his nephew the first Marquess Conyngham, who inherited the Slane Estate form his uncle General Henry Conyngham on his death in 1796. This reconstruction commenced in 1785, and is principally the work of James Gandon, James Wyatt and Francis Johnston. Francis Johnston, one of Ireland’s most distinguished architects, is responsible for the dramatic gothic gates on the Mill Hill in Slane.

The present head of the Conyngham family is the seventh Marquess Conyngham, and the castle is owned by his eldest son, Henry, the present Earl of Mount Charles, continuing an active association between the Conynghams and Slane Castle dating back to the beginning of the eighteenth century.

Throughout the centuries, Slane Castle has entertained a variety of guests from historical figures including King George IV – for whom the Ballroom was originally designed – to modern legends like U2, Madonna, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, AC/DC and The Rolling Stones. Indeed, it has become famed worldwide as the original Rock ‘n Roll castle with a very colourful past – it’s infamous nightclub became a regular haunt for rock stars including Mick Jagger, Bono et al leaving no doubt that if the walls of Slane Castle could talk, they would regale some very interesting tales.
