Down narrow, pot holed filled country roads, you will eventually come to the doorstep of Ross Castle. Enter the 16th century through a gateway to an inner courtyard and lawn, surrounded by a stone wall and trees. On the ground floor is an ample entrance hall connecting the tower and lounge. This large room, with a generous open fireplace, has yawning French windows, giving magnificent views across the lake.
In the base of the tower there is a double bedroom with private access to the terrace. Up the winding wooden spiral staircase the tower has two more spacious double bedrooms with en-suite facilities (one with the longest bathtub I've ever seen), another sitting room with a large open fire and breathtaking views.

Further details: The Castle commands magnificent views of Lough Sheelin, a four thousand five acre lake famous for its brown trout and liberally stocked with perch and large pike, one of which can be seen mounted in a glass case in the lounge.
Built in the Sixteenth Century, the tower of Ross Castle was used by Myles O'Reilly. A plaque erected in the hall of the castle reads, "This ancient castle in which the celebrated Myles O'Reilly, known as The Slasher in 1644 past the night previous to the Battle of Feinna at which he was killed, haven fallen into ruin was partly restored by his lineal descendant Anna Marie Maria Dease O'Reilly in 1864".
Though not perhaps the most elegant of grand castles, it is unquestionably great value, memorable, warm, and quite spectacular for its charm, setting and ambiance.
