"Tigh Oisre" - The house.

Can truly claim to be unique in Southern Ireland, a luxury family home built and furnished to the very highest standards, without compromise, and to our own designs and specifications for our own use.

Built in 1999 and 2000 and set in 6 acres, the house is a wonderful Post & Beam home using Douglas Fir imported from Canada.

The house can truly claim to be multi-national - the exterior is clad in Cedar siding we bought in South Carolina, the garage doors are in hardwood to a one-off design and were made in Belgium, and the guttering and drainpipes are made from zinc and came from France.   The owners write "the limestone floor tiles came from Italy, and I could go on and on, suffice to say that a lot of time and effort was taken to get what we wanted, and to get it right.   We never had a budget for this house, we just built exactly what we wanted.   This is our home in Ireland, not just a rental property, and we rent it only to the discerning few whom we feel will appreciate the difference between a 'rental' and a private luxury home".

The interior is really spacious and open plan with stunning open vaulted ceilings both downstairs and in the bedrooms, and the furnishings are contemporary. We wanted to be free of clutter and nicnacs, but we wanted to avoid the coldness of minimalism, so the house is comfortable, spacious but not cluttered.   We hope you like it.

Accomodation.

Ground Floor

The front door opens in to an immense open plan reception area, which then opens into the dining area followed by the sitting room, leading onto the sun room.

The open plan kitchen is separated from the dining area, and has a granite topped breakfast bar.
A separate laundry room runs off the kitchen, as does a further utility room and pantry room, and there is a downstairs cloakroom off the reception room.

First Floor

There are three very large bedrooms and two bathrooms leading off an octagonal landing.
The Master bedroom has a fulle Terrazo tiled bathroom en-suite, fitted with a power shower and large cast iron bath, with Perrin & Rowe fittings.  The other bathroom is identical in equipment, and serves the Twin bedded room at the front of the house, and the other Double bedroom which has a balcony leading onto a walkway to 5 acres of wild mountainside smothered with heathers and rhododendrons.

The house is fully equipped, including 2 direct dial telephones, TV and video, several radio's and CD/tape players, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, microwave, free standing electric oven with 6 burner gas hob and extractor fan, and full underfloor heating to the ground floor and first floor bathrooms.

One word of caution, there are no curtains or drapes downstairs, we did this on purpose as we wanted to maximise the sizes of windows and wished to "bring in " the lovely garden views.  The house is secluded, and no strangers wander about. Of course we have fitted curtains to all the bedrooms!

Unlike some other holiday homes you will find a full compliment of all house-wares, (a full inventory is available on request) we used to hate renting houses that only had four sets of cutlery and a couple of blunt knives, all old junk. Here you will delight in a surfeit of everything . You will also find in the boiler room a selection of wellies, coats, waterproofs, walking sticks etc.

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard…….. here in our larder you will find the essentials of life - olive oil - black peppercorns - rock salt and many many more items to make your stay comfortable, help yourself, and be kind enough to replace items, we also have a fully stocked cocktail cabinet and again you may help yourself, we use an honesty system so please replace what you have used, thank you.
