A castle stood on this land in the 1400s, and beyond a high wall in the garden is an ancient stableyard with Elizabethan buildings, said to be haunted by the ghost of a former owner, who was piked to death by insurrectionists in 1798. The French family, previous owners of Newbay House, founded the Canadian Mounties. The last heir married a Canadian girl, and setttled in Canada. Open peat and log fires welcome arriving guests. There are huge trees, lawns, and bright flowerbeds in the garden. There is a pond with wild ducks and moorhens, a peacock which strolls grandly about and poses on the porch above the kitchen door. Outside there are 25 acres of gardens & parkland and Wexford town is 2 miles away. It is near beautiful beaches, archaeological sites, horse riding & golf courses.
It has 15 en-suite rooms some with 4 poster beds. There is a large
breakfast room / party room on the ground floor that can seat 100 and has french
doors going out into the garden. Up stairs the dining room can seat
32. There is also a double drawing room and a sitting area in the front
hall beside the fireplace.
