Close to River Slaney, famous for its salmon, Lisnavagh is a fine Victorian Gothic family
home, built in 1848 and redesigned 100 years later, set in extensive parkland enjoying
tranquility and space. Amidst fascinating pictures, fine furniture, open fires and a
wonderful panelled library, this is the perfect place to relax or enjoy country pursuits.
The house breathes history, which does make it wonderfully interesting.
Accommodation consists of two twin bedded rooms, one room that can be double or
twin and four rooms with double beds.
The estate offers 1000 acres of farm and mature woodland, with an outdoor swimming
pool in its own beautiful walled garden. Riding, squash and tennis can all be arranged
with advanced notice, as can private salmon and trout fishing, hunting and shooting.
. Keen golfers can
play at Carlow, Mount Wolsey (10 minutes) Killerig (5 minutes)
Coolatin (30 minutes) and Baltinglass, with Mount Juliet under an hour away, as are Russborough
House, the National Stud & Japanese Gardens, The Curragh, Punchestown, other
racecourses, and the medieval city of Kilkenny. Dublin is just over an
hour away. Locally there is a pub famous for its traditional music,
wonderful long distance walks and some of the most remarkable prehistoric sites
in the country including Haroldstown Dolmen, the iron age fort at Rathgall
and the stone circle at Castleruddery.
How to get there - From Rathvilly take Hacketstown Road (past school), turn right outside
village and take next two right turns. Entrance on right opposite cottages.
For a wedding Lisnavagh can seat 80 people in the Library, or a marquee can be
errected on the lawns to take any number.
