Lettercollum House is a Victorian Manor house overlooking Courtmacsherry Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and one mile from the lively village of Timoleague. The House is approached by a tree lined driveway which is part of the 12 acres of mature woodland pastures and gardens remaining from the original estate. Built in 1861 by the Beamish-Crooks of Belfast, the house became the residence of Lady Yarrow in the 1930s, and in latter years was a convent run by the Sisters of Mercy . In 1982 it was purchased by its present owners who initially ran it as a small guest house and resataurant, but now let it out by the week. The owners live on the property, but at some distance from the house.

Accommodation consists of 7 bright airy rooms all of which have direct dial telephones and bathrooms en-suite. There are two rooms with a double bed, 2 rooms with a double and a single bed and three rooms which normally have only a double bed, but could have a single bed as well. Three rooms have sea views and a fourth has partial sea views. There is a large comfortable sitting room (without a TV!) and a kitchen.

It is an ideal house in which to run theatre and music nights, specialist entertainment weekends from murder mystery to bird watching and fishing trips. In fact it is the ideal venue for any kind of meeting or activity. The facilities are comprehensive enough for 2 or 3 families to share the house. The house does not come into the luxury bracket, and there still are faint echoes of the nuns, but all the formality has gone and it is a relaxed and relaxing atmosphere that pervades the place. Decoration tends towards new and antique pine, the odd piece of impressive Victorian mahogany, polished sanded floors and rugs and no clutter.

Timoleague, until the 18th century, was a thriving port, trading with France and Spain. The remains of the Abbey, built by the Franciscan monks in the 13th century are still there to enjoy as are the famous Castle Gardens (although the Castle itself was burnt to the ground in 1922). There are plenty of pubs, a post office and grocery stores to keep you supplied during your stay.

West Cork is renowned for it's many beaches (the local ones are within a few miles). For the fishing enthusiast there is the local Argideen river for sea trout and salmon. Boat trips can be arranged from nearby Courtmacsherry. The bay is a birdwatchers paradise. Traditional music can be heard in the local pubs and in Clonakilty which also boasts a wonderful model village. Horse riding and windsurfing are all close by. Timoleague is approximately 10kms (6miles) from Clonakilty.
