"A Royal Abode!"
Knappogue Castle
Dating from the mid- 15th Century, Knappogue Castle has a long and fascinating history. In the 15th and 16th Centuries, it was home to the warrior clan, the McNamaras. In 1641, it was occupied by Oliver Cromwell's troops, and in the early 20th Century, it served as the headquarters of General Michael Brennan in Ireland's fight for freedom. It has been host to two Irish presidents, as well as other heads of state, including General de Gaulle.

It is situated in an area rich in natural beauty, and wonderful views can be enjoyed from the castle and its grounds. Riding, fishing, hunting and golf are all available within a few minutes' drive. The charming medieval town of Ennis is just 9 miles away, with its quaint painted shop fronts and folk music festivals.

The castle has been meticulously restored. The central tower house is original, but the rest is in an atmospheric neo-Gothic style. From May to October, medieval banquets are held with costumes, storytelling and music, which guests are welcome to join. There are fine fireplaces, antiques and paintings throughout. Further facilities include satellite TV, VCR and supply of movies, stereo system and CDs, telephone and fax machine. There is central heating and a baby's crib and high chair can be provided on request.
