If you are too notorious, too conspicuous, too well known financially, politically, or theatrically to stay in the best hotels, or, like Thoreau, you would prefer to sit on a pumpkin and have it all to yourself than be crowded by a velvet cushion you may wish to take note of the elegant and spacious Kilshane House in County Tipperary.

Built in 1822, the house at the end of a half mile long driveway, is the centrepiece of
320 acres of private parkland which includes a trout river, a remarkable Victorian
landscape garden with a man-made lake, huge noble trees, a very large and handsome
curvilinear palm house of 1860, an extensive walled garden, a ballroom in an
orangerie, and more.
Kilshane House has just undergone a multimillion pound meticulous restoration and careful
renovation - a pleasing transformation to charm the discerning guest.
Description
Past the main gates and the lodge, the half-mile long driveway passes formal lines of lime
trees, splashes of wild indigenous plantations, open and peaceful pastures and then, over
the bridge and up the hill to the spacious and elegant house. Through the front door under the limestone Ionic portico, the
main hall, with its pair of marble columns and 17 foot high ceilings and fine plasterwork,
takes the visitor to the wonderfully proportioned drawing room, library, dining room, and
morning room each with unfettered, flawless views across country. The stairs lead up to
four stately bedrooms each with an open fireplace and a large bathroom/dressing room with
generous period fittings. The 10 foot high windows in the bedrooms,
and the immense expanse of the Tipperary sky, visible both night and day transforms these
rooms, which are furnished simply but elegantly and comfortably, and allow the visitor to retreat to a
rich solitude to work, relax, or dream. To paraphrase the poet WB Yeats
The light of evening, Kilshane House
Great windows open to the south,
Two girls in silk kimonos, both
Beautiful, one a gazelle.
It should be noted that state-of-the-art telephone
and computer points are fitted in each room for travelling the Internet as well as the
solar system. The kitchen is fully fitted for cooks amateur or professional. Last,
but not least, there is a fine ballroom at the far end of the west wing.
Outside, there are walks both gentle or sporting through the estate to view archeological
sites, the walled garden, the stableyard, or, beyond the main gates,
visits to the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and the Swiss Cottage. Golf, hill walking,
riding, hunting, fishing, shooting, and racing are some of the other local activities one can
choose from.

be provided by arrangement, as can a string quartet, jazz band, singers, and musicians in
any combination, as well as horses for all levels with instructors and grooms. Pets are
welcome in general. Security is paramount and can be augmented. The wing, which is entirely
separate, can also be taken in addition
to the main house and provides 12 well decorated bedrooms on 3 floors 10
bedrooms have double beds and 2 have twin beds. The
