"The Lost Village!"The Glenbeigh Cottages |

Overlooking Caragh Lake and The Dingle Peninsula, between
Killorglin and Glenbeigh, this little village of three cottages was originally built by
the Kennedy and Regan families. Built of old red sandstone with wooden paneled interiors,
the original cottages housed large farming families within their traditionally cozy
dimensions. A fourth cottage was built on similar lines, but a larger scale, 20 years ago
when the complete village (by then quite derelict) was turned into a single holiday home.
The house is set on its own grounds of 10 acres, now mainly wooded. This is
surrounded by thousands of acres of open moor land. The walks, hill climbs and views are
outstandingly beautiful. Sheep have free run of the hills, and most of the land around the
cottages too. Apart from providing delightful company (!) they also keep the grass around
the cottages in good shape. But because of the sheep, dogs are not allowed.
Water comes from the same spring as was used by the first farmers who established
themselves here, a thousand years ago or more. Sourced from deep within the sandstones of
the Seefin Mountains, the pristine waters of the spring have never run dry. Unlimited
firewood and turf is available free of charge for vigorous fires - stacks are provided and
if you need more and you will get just as warm collecting the timber as burning it!
Accommodation
The main cottage is mostly open-plan on the ground floor, consisting of living room, sun
porch, dining room and kitchen. A large central open fireplace divides the areas. There is
a washroom, w.c., a boot room and a utility room. Up a staircase there is a bedroom with a
double bed, and a bathroom with a bath, shower and w.c.. Facilities include dish washer,
clothes washer, clothes dryer, hot press, electric cooker, microwave telephone, TV, etc.
The dining table can seat 16.

Middle Cottage
This cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two single beds. The
bathroom has a shower, bath, basin and w.c. It is paneled with wood and is
well insulated, providing a very cosy apartment.

Lake Cottage
This has two bedrooms with a total of four single beds. There is a bathroom with a shower,
basin and w.c., but no tub.
The three cottages are seperate, but close to each other, being located around a small
courtyard. Bed clothes and towels are provided, but please bring your own beach towels (if
required). The housekeeper lives about a mile from the cottages and is often willing to
cook a fine meal if requested. There are books, films, board games and cards and large
scale maps for walkers
