Emlagh House, Dingle, Co Kerry

 5 minutes from the town centre and the harbour of Dingle is a newly built mansion, overlooking the town and the sea.

Each of the ten spacious bedrooms is individually decorated on the theme of native Irish wild flowers. Eight rooms have harbour views (the balance having garden views). Four of the rooms (on the ground floor) have private patios. Each room comes fully equipped with: satellite TV, Video, wireless & CD unit (also wired to the bathrooms),  telephone, modem access, individually controlled heating/air conditioning, bathrobes / hairdryer.  The really luxurious en-suite bathrooms have separate bath and shower, double sink, marble surround, heated mirror and towel rail, under floor heating etc.

The  bright conservatory dining room has a gorgeous view overlooking the harbour mouth (where with any luck you may see the much-loved resident dolphin, Fungi, as you tuck into breakfast).  The drawing room is the perfect place to escape from it all. An open fire, views over the garden and harbour, books, games  and big comfortable sofas combine to provide an intimate and friendly ambience.  A well-stocked library with on-line computer access is on the first floor.

Corca Dhuibhne – The Dingle Peninsula – has been inhabited for almost 6,000 years. The first settlers on the peninsula were nomadic hunters and gatherers who foraged on the coast for their food. Later Stone Age man and Bronze Age man were to build their tombs, erect their standing stones, and toil the land for the first time. The Celtic population arrived in the couple of hundred years before the birth of Christ and brought their ancestral goddess "Duibhne", after which the Dingle Peninsula has been named in Gaelic: Corca Dhuibhne, the seed or tribe of Duibhne. In the centuries that followed, the peninsula was to be visited by Vikings, Normans and English.  Each wave of settlers left their mark on the locality and the peninsula is one of the richest areas in Ireland for archaeology.  It is also a centre of craft workers, some inspired by the talented Mulcahy family.  Dingle has restaurants that are internationally famous, and pubs that are internationally infamous - or at least the occasional patron is at closing time!  It is also where the films Ryan's Daughter and Far & Away were shot; the film buff can follow a  trail around the sets.
