Castle Doddard will not be available during 2002
Castle Dodard was built in the 16th century as a small fort for the first Earl of Cork against the sheep stealers of County Tipperary.
It is not built on a grand scale but it is exceptionally pretty and has been decorated with great flair. The owners are widely travelled in the east and this is reflected in the imaginative style of the interior.
The castle is five miles from Lismore, which is on the Blackwater River. Here you will find excellent fishing, a golf course, tennis courts, hunting, and good restaurants and pubs. We can arrange fishing trips for you and even provide a Gillie (a wise fisherman) to guide you to the best spots. We can also arrange riding and pony trekking nearby and visits to the studio of a distinguished local artist.
Situated eighteen miles from the coast (Youghal, Ardmore) fifty miles from Cork City, and fifty miles from Waterford, this is an excellent base for touring
There are three self-contained suites, two in tower rooms. They each have a bedroom with a double bed, a small sitting room with a single bed, and a bathroom. The drawing room, dining room and the sun room are on the top floor with lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

John & Carolyn will make you welcome and comfortable. Carolyn will cook breakfast to your taste and, should you wish, an evening meal from a choice of menus. John knows all there is to know about the area and will be happy to give you any information you may need. You will be well looked after.
Almost a fairytale castle at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains surrounded by twelve acres of grounds with a small lake and lovely wooded walks. If it is tranquillity you seek you will be left in peace to enjoy it.
We feel the castle is not suitable for children under six years old or for those who expect castles to be grand and imposing places with central heating and wall to wall carpets. It is however very suitable for those who love eccentricity, character and friendly people and who want to be far away from the hurly-burly of rushing crowds.
