headfort demesne dovecote The Dovecote is a beautifully restored coach house with round tower situated in an enchanting courtyard in Headfort Demesne, Kells, County Meath, Ireland. Headfort Demesne traces its history back to the Cromwellian period when Thomas Taylor of Sussex, England, a land surveyor in the employ of the British Crown, acquired lands in the vicinity of Kells, County Meath.

Dovecote is entered through a door on the southern wing of the courtyard. Once inside, one's attention is drawn upwards into the round tower that rises dramatically overhead to a height of 40 feet. A glass cupola on top allows sun light to enter during the day. At night, flood lights illuminate the tower and provide a beautiful setting for an intimate gathering or small dinner party in the atrium below. Ascending the staircase which curves around the interior of the tower, one arrives at the balcony seperating the two guest bedrooms. The master bedroom is furnished with a French Art Nouveau queen bed with intricate floral inlay and matching night lockers. The second room has two Edwardian beds with a Georgian chest of drawers. Both rooms have ensuite bathrooms with walk-in private dressing areas

Dovecote is a beautifully appointed house, and is perfect for a couple or family or party of four who wish to experience gracious living in the Irish countryside. A welcome pack of foodstufs is provided in the modern, fully equipped kitchen for guests on arrival. A cell phone is also available for the use of guests whilst they are in residence.

Adjoining the courtyard is Headfort Golf Club, a par 71 championship course. Visitors are welcomed to play here, and this gently undulating course with lakes fed by the River Blackwater is regarded as one of the finest and most scenic golf courses in Ireland.

Fishing and horse back riding are closeby as are some of the world's greatest antiquities. Tara, the ancestral seat of the High Kings of Ireland is less than an hour's drive as is New Grange whose megalithic tombs predate the Egyptian Pyramids by a thousand years. Slane Hill where Saint Patrick lit the Pascal Fire more than fifteen hundred years ago is also close at hand. Dublin with its wonderful shopping and great cultural and literary heritage is a little over one hour by car. The West of Ireland with its mysteries of landscape and weather can be reached in two and a half hours. The K Club with championship course designed by Arnold Palmer and where the Ryder Cup will be contested in 2006 is within a seventy five minute drive.

The Dovecote is on long term rental until April 2006.
