The
Twelfth of August, the Glorious Twelfth, looms large in every grouse shooter's
calendar as heralding the start of the most exhilarating driven game bird
shooting a sportsman can enjoy.
Based in Perthshire, the heart of good grouse shooting country, we arrange driven grouse shooting for parties of 8-10 guns on a wide variety of Scotland's finest moors, from the Lammermuirs in the south, Aberdeenshire in the east to the high swept moors of Speyside and the Monadliaths in the north.
Our
main season for driven grouse shooting is 12th August to the end of September,
although in good years we are often able to offer late season days into
October and November. These late season days will not be offered until the
moors have been driven in August and September, and are therefore, usually let
at short notice.
Due to the travelling time and distances involved, most groups take at least two days shooting, and if we are unable to offer this on one moor, we can put together packages to include shooting on a variety of estates.
We are able to offer a wide range of accommodation from local hotels to fully staffed and catered luxury lodges.
"In Scotland you are close to heaven. You really appreciate that you are alive, that God created the world, and that you are privileged to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere with an event like grouse shooting …… I have gone to many, many places to shoot and Scotland is by far the best. Not only the scenery but because of the way the birds fly". Baron Jochen Von der Goltz, Boston, USA.
Partridge & Pheasant
Whether it be 100 or 400 + birds, we are able to offer a wide range of driven partridge and pheasant shooting for teams of 8-10 guns throughout Scotland, Ireland and Devon, during the main season of November to February, with partridge days in September, and early mixed pheasant and partridge days in October.
Ballindalloch
Ballindalloch Castle is the family home of the Macpherson-Grant's, and lies midway up the Spey Valley at the junction with the RiverAvon.
The Spey and Avon Valleys provide the ideal topography for high and exciting birds, and the drives are designed to make best use of the ground.
Between 25 and 30 days of mixed driven pheasants and partridges are offered each year, with usual days of 200+ early season, and 100-200 bird days in January.
Lunch is usually arranged in the Castle.
Aswanley
Aswanley has highly acclaimed partridges, in Aberdeen's Deveron Valley. The drives have been carefully planned to make best use of the river valley topography, and there are some staggeringly difficult birds on most drives, the most notable including Jock's Hill, Maggie's Knapp and Cerfulton. Prime months are September and October with the ability to offer mixed sporting weeks to include driven and walked up days.
Newlands
Shootings
The adjoining Estates of Blackwood, Dalswinton, Duncow and Newlands situated in the beautiful NithValley in Dumfriesshire are now under the management of Andrew Duncan and his experienced team of Keepers. With over eight thousand acres they have been able to be selective in which drives they develop. There are over thirty five quality stands as well as some fine rough shooting and duck flighting.
An exciting new addition is the introduction of Partridges to provide some very exciting days early in the season. For 2006, there will be an opportunity to shoot between 75 and 100 brace back to back days from September, based at Newlands.
Andrew and Eileen Duncan have been having paying guests to stay and shoot with them at Newlands for over twenty five years but amalgamating these renown individual shoots has enabled them to produce some quite magical drives that will be as good in quality as any in the land. The likes of Lead Zeppelin, Fernhill and Bullshit will be joining the well respected drives of Glenhead, Half Moon, Pennyland Roadside, Wild Cat and BirrellsWood
Glenogil
and Auchnacree Estates
Situated on the edge of the Grampian Mountains, Glenogil is a renowned, all round sporting Estate with a challenging pheasant and partridge shoot on the lower ground. The quality of birds on the Beeches drive rival anything in the country. The property extends to 9,670 acres and includes a fully refurbished and comfortable house with 4 reception rooms, billiard room and 9 bedrooms. The house is available to let along with the shooting.
